Academic Assignments
Academic Assignments Wednesday, February 28, 2012 “The way of truth is winding?” Perhaps we could call it “the way of making sense of things” or “making sense of things”. How we accomplish this will change across our lifetimes. Over the last 15 yrs I have found myself as a teacher working to teach the truths inherent within scripture and a deep grounding for faith and practice in things like: the inerrancy, sacrificial love, restoration of relationships, restoration of nations, the glory of the old covenant, the wisdom and blessings of the new covenant, the preeminence of Jesus, etc. We’ve taught the necessity of obedience to God and submission to His authority. Ultimately teaching of biblical truth and Jesus’ lordship has meant a very personal and humbling surrender of self-regard. It’s taken me yrs to become that sort of a guy. But teaching this is what I want to do in my career. After 15 yrs I am pretty sure. One part of the assignment is a reading of the Bible and I think my main focus is to get it in order of the Canon. So, these are my thoughts: I came across this verse earlier tonight: Acts 15:2 Now there was much dispute between the Jews and the Gentiles concerning the mutual law. And I realized I never posted my Bible questions in more than a cursory way. I also realized that when teaching Biblical Truth and developing my theological framework, it’s important–but not inevitable–to offer some kind of answer or response, if only to tell my students what I think is the best response. I also realized that I can’t think of anymore good questions God is bringing to my attention.

A period of great social and religious transformation In the mid-1950’s, John Scopes was accused of teaching Darwinism in Tennessee, which he denied was true. If convicted, Scopes was to lose his federal license and be banned from public school teaching forever. William Andrews Clark Jr., Judge of the U.S. Supreme Court, sentenced the Scopes monkey-gene trial in Dayton, Tennessee. The case forced the U.S. Congress to pass the Establishment Clause in 1878 to protect religion over the government. Despite overwhelming public support of school science programs, in 1967 the Church of the United States of God defeated the California State Board of Education’s attempts to pass this bill.
